SHE and YGB changed my life. Without them, my life would have been completely different. I am deeply grateful to YGB’s SHE for this life-changing support. Without this support, I would not have reached graduation.
Rinku was raised in an economically deprived family with strict, conservative values, in which the chronic devaluation of women was the norm. As a daily wage laborer, Rinku’s father was the only person in a family of five who earned an income, and meeting their basic needs was a daily struggle. Marrying their girl children very young is one way impoverished families can reduce their financial burden, and Rinku’s family was not an exception. Although she was determined to complete her education through high school graduation, Rinku did not dare share this dream with her father as he would not have been able to support his daughter’s goal.
As her parents planned what appeared to be an inevitable early marriage for Rinku, she felt increasingly helpless and grew depressed. One day, Rinku was taken to a social worker by a friend who was also associated with YGB’s NGO partner, NISHTHA. Through this connection, Rinku soon received the SHE (Scholarship for Higher Education), which allowed her to complete her education. Upon graduation, she started providing tutoring services and earning an income. Rinku is currently well-known as a sought-after private tutor in her community. Rinku has not stopped pursuing her dreams and is working towards becoming a schoolteacher.
Please donate to YGB’s five-year scholarship for higher education (SHE Project) to help turn Rinku’s and other youths’ dreams into realities. SHE currently funds the education of 400 disadvantaged youths so that they can earn their college degrees. Just $250 per year or $20 per month can support one student to transform their life completely. Join us here http://ow.ly/tWCR50K3yXa
