I am honoured to be join YGB’s team of global Ambassadors and commit to generating more awareness and support for YGB and the women they serve.
At the age of 50, Deborah Carruthers embarked on a transformative journey by taking a teacher training course after completing a Master’s Degree in Counseling. In her words, “My dream was to open a wellness center that would include counseling, bodywork and yoga. I opened Harmony Yoga and Wellness Center 12 years ago and in that time have hosted retreats to India and teacher training which has included fundraising for local and global charities. Our value is to be inclusive and supportive of our membership and the larger community in any way that we can, which also includes India. I have been contributing to the support of sending 40 girls to school with Yoga Gives Back for a while now and I feel passionate about supporting on a larger scale.
As an Ambassador, I can encourage our community and provide fundraisers to support women in India. I know from my visits to India the hardships women face and the strength and resilience of their communities. During the pandemic, we were shuttered four times. Thanks to the power of our community of mostly women, we have survived and morphed into VI Yoga School, where we focus on offering more training and opportunities for women in our communities to lead through teaching.
