Manashi’s story illustrates the importance of forming a group and the necessity and value of the kind of support born out of YGB’s “Sister Aid” microloan groups to survive their hardships without giving up.
Manashi and her husband lived on selling fish. Manashi’s husband was a drunkard who squandered what little money they had on drinking. In 2016, a social worker from YGB’s NGO partner Nishtha learned about Manashi’s situation and told her about YGB’s Sister Aid project, which provides micro loans for impoverished mothers and education funds for their young daughters. We are delighted to acknowledge Julee Yew-Crijns (London, UK) and Lauren Peterson (Los Angeles, USA) as “Ambassadors of the Year”, which will be presented at the Annual Gala. Julee became the first Ambassador in the U.K. in 2011 and has continued her annual fundraising efforts. She also inspired our first Seva Trip this January and coordinated this very successful trip. Lauren joined YGB five years ago and has been hosting YGB events every year. She also joined a special event in Tokyo in 2017, as well as taking part in this year’s Seva Trip to India. YGB is truly fortunate to have these most passionate Ambassadors who share YGB’s mission and work with their communities to make a life changing impact together.
