“When I discovered YogaGivesBack, I felt instantly compelled to get involved. Not only because of the immense gratitude I have for this practice, but also because I firmly believe that female-empowerment is a key driver for uplifting entire communities and fostering generational growth. YogaGivesBack’s mission also deeply resonates with me as the founder of Gecko Yoga. I created the brand as sustainable alternative to what is being offered by the mainstream yoga industry — an industry that is, unfortunately, largely disconnected from its yogic roots. YGB gives us another opportunity to create the change we want to see in our modern yoga landscape, and come back home to the values of the practice. I am proud to serve as an ambassador for this brilliant organization.”
Nicolette is the founder of Gecko Yoga, a sustainable cork yoga mat brand based in Lisbon, Portugal (www.geckoyogamats.com).
Like many, Nicolette first came to the mat for the physical benefits, only to quickly discover the transformative power of yoga on a deep psycho-spiritual level. In 2013, she completed her first Yoga Teacher Training Certification in Orange County, California. She has been a dedicated student of the practice ever since, earning an additional 250 hours in Yoga Alliance accredited certifications, as well as a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Double Minors in Business and Religious Studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Nicolette views teaching yoga as an act of service. Her approach is heart-led, following a creative vinyasa methodology that is at once structured and intuitive. She draws influence from the teachers of various lineages who have inspired her over the years, which include both classical Ashtanga yoga and non-dual Tantric philosophy.
