“Thanks to YGB and the SHE project, today I am living the life of a truly educated person. I am thrilled to be able to work professionally and independently and earn an income to help my family. I am grateful to the SHE project and to YGB for their years of support and care.”
Meet Sonali! Sonali was a brave and determined girl who broke the devastating tradition of child marriage of girls in her family through education. As a daily wage laborer, Sonali’s father is the only income earner for a family of five. As the youngest of three daughters, Sonali witnessed with dread when her two older sisters were forced into marriages at an early age in order to help meet their family’s expenses.
Sonali completed the 10th grade and was determined to continue her studies but faced opposition from her father, who demanded she follow the family tradition of quitting her studies to get married. At this point, Yoga Gives Back stepped in to award Sonali the SHE (Scholarship for Higher Education) award, which allowed her to complete the 12th grade as well as college, with honors in Bengali literature. Sonali says her graduation day was the happiest day of her life, and she is proud to be the first girl in the family to complete her studies. Sonali is currently earning an income and helping her family through teaching and tutoring.
Please donate to YGB’s five-year scholarship for higher education (SHE Project) to help turn Payel’s and other youths’ dreams into realities. SHE currently funds the education of 400 disadvantaged youths so that they can earn their college degrees. Just $250 per year or $20 per month can support one student to transform their life completely. Join us here http://ow.ly/tWCR50K3yXa.
