“When I first saw pictures in books of yogis sitting cross-legged in the woods of India, something would make me look twice… I was drawn to it. There was such a presence of power and dignity—an absence of fear…That made me think that the enlightenment must be something real, even though I did not know what it was…”
“If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. They are huge and abstract. And they are very beautiful. I look for a certain kind of fish that is important for me, one that can translate to cinema. But there are all kinds of fish swimming down there. There are fish for business, fish for sports. There are fish for everything. Everything, anything that is a thing, comes up from the deepest level. Modern physics call that level the Unified Field. The more your consciousness —your awareness—is expanded, the deeper you go toward this source, and the bigger the fish you can catch.”
~ David Lynch, “Catching the Big Fish”
In 2016, it was Yoga Gives Back honor to present the 2016 Namaste Award to David Lynch, whose passion for Transcendental Meditation led to the creation of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. The Foundation teaches Transcendental Meditation in many countries and, through its practice, helps young children in inner-city schools, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, the homeless, and women and girls who are victims of violence.” Lynch began practicing Transcendental Meditation in 1973.
We extend our condolences to his family and friends in the creative community. A four-time Oscar nominee, Lynch received an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 2019. His unique gift for visual arts and passion for self-discovery has enriched us all.
Since we honored David with YGB Namaste Award in 2016, David was kind enough to join our ZOOM event and share his passion for TM meditation which was so inspiring to us all. He always shared the message of love and peace for all.
