What is the purpose of our being on this planet?

“Changing the whole world is not a one man’s job. Individuals taking small steps will lead to a bigger change globally. The purpose of living on this planet is to be of use for somebody else. That is also what our scriptures say – “Subhshitha” which is a collection of noble thoughts from different scriptural sources. One such Sanskrit saying is “Paropakaararthamidham shareeram” meaning that this body or this living is for the benefit of others. Just like the trees yield fruits not for itself, but for others.” (watch this 2 minute video)

Prof. G. S. Jayadev shared this poignant message during our Seva Trip. As a Founder of a caring home for abandoned and orphaned children since 1990, he continues to educate children on the value of helping others.

As our world experiences unimaginable violence against humanity, we may feel powerless. But we have the blessed tools of yoga practice and its immense wisdom, which help us to ground our unsettled minds and take actions with selfless intentions that seed love and peace in this troubled world. Our actions truly count!
