Empowering Girls in West Bengal: The New Learning Foundation Pledges to Match $10,000 in Donations
The New Learning Foundation, founded by Amit and Vandana Pamecha, has made a significant commitment to empower young girls in West Bengal by pledging to match up to $10,000 in donations raised by the global yoga community. These funds will support the provision of more Chromebooks and English tutoring through Yoga Gives Back (YGB) and NISHTHA, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
Expanding Digital Literacy for Girls in West Bengal
In June 2022, YGB and NISHTHA launched a pilot Digital Literacy Program in West Bengal. With just five computers, access to reliable electricity, internet connection, and professional training staff, the initiative provided much-needed education in a safe and accessible environment. Thanks to a donation from the New Learning Foundation last year, six Chromebooks were added to the program, extending the reach of this vital education. The portable Chromebooks enabled the girls to use the devices at other local centers, multiplying the program’s impact.
Now, with the pledge to match up to $10,000 raised by YGB’s global network, the New Learning Foundation is taking its support even further. These funds will help purchase more Chromebooks and provide English tutoring for girls in YGB’s micro-loan and scholarship programs.
A Vision for Equality and Empowerment
Every year with your support, we help over 600 young girls continue their primary education through our Sister Aid Program while preventing forced child marriage or labor. Many of these girls then pursue higher education with our Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) Program, aiming for college degrees.
A critical component is their computer education and internet access to escape poverty, rise above gender discrimination, and succeed in today’s increasingly digital and global workforce. The New Learning Foundation has pledged to match up to $10,000 raised by Yoga Gives Back to provide more Chromebooks and English tutoring to these women and girls.
