Five years ago, YGB started the SHE Program (Scholarship for Higher Education) in West Bengal and Karnataka to provide five-year higher education scholarships for destitute teens. In West Bengal, girls are still married at 18, against their wishes. Our NGO partner NISHTHA manages this scholarship program to ensure that recipients can continue their studies. NISHTHA also provides social awareness guidance so girls can challenge forced marriage and deep rooted gender discrimination. NISHTHA Director, Mina Das, expressed her joy about this historic milestone, “It is undoubtedly a great achievement indeed for Nishtha as this is the first time in the history of Nishtha that such a significant number of students appear at the final year examination at the graduation level. Moreover, this is a remarkable achievement for their villages too.”

We are also grateful for PURE International (Hong Kong) who took the initiative in 2013 to fund 10 girls within this program with their corporate social responsibility budget. PURE will also fund the SHE program for another five years. It is truly encouraging to have a yoga business commit to give back to India with YGB’s programs. SHE program has grown to support 180 girls this year.

We are happy to announce that Banyan BotanicalsLiformeYogiTeaPURE, and JALA have joined to be YGB’s annual brand partners this year.

During our January YGB Seva Trip, the team met with SHE students in West Bengal. The students presented this heartbreaking drama based on a true story they experienced. Please watch this short film (3 minutes) about a young girl who falls in love…

Please join our #OneMillionYogis global campaign. Together, we are empowering more than 1200 mothers, youths and children in India, including 260 SHE scholarship students in Karnataka and West Bengal.
